Summary
Fossil fuel depletion, global warming due to increased atmospheric CO2, and urban air pollution caused by exhaust emissions are some of the issues surrounding the future of the automobile. One high profile solution for these issues is the hybrid vehicle. Currently, coming into wider use throughout the world, HVs use energy regeneration and other functions to boost fuel economy and reduce CO2. Based on the history of Toyota's HV development, this article explains Toyota's viewpoint, that Hybrid technology does not mean the end of conventional combustion engines, but on the contrary will extend the fossil fuel availability and thus the life of the conventional combustion engine.
