Summary

The continuing need for emissions compliance and fuel efficiency drive the development of commercial vehicle engines. Through the combined use of exhaust gas recirculation and aftertreatment, significant advances in the compliance of such engines for future emissions standards whilst retaining good fuel economy have been achieved and reported recently. These advances and their consequences for the optimum future vehicle cooling system will be presented. However, in such future engine and aftertreatment concepts about half of the available fuel energy is still dissipated in the form of "waste" heat.

Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
