Summary
With ElroActive a new product family of ElringKlinger is presented, which addresses faster temperature conditioning of exhaust (aftertreatment) components. It consists at least of an electrical heating system combined with a direct shielding system i.e. a
fibre mat with a structured metal layer. As an addition a tailored pipe design can be offered for improved heat transfer conditions. This paper focuses on the potential of decreasing NOₓ emissions with conditioning of exhaust aftertreatment systems by applying ElroActive. Taking the benefit/cost effect into account, this product is able to provide a significant opportunity to OEMs for improving especially their emission reduction measures in existing and future vehicles. NOₓ emission reduction benefits of up to 40 % can be achieved – or even more depending on electric energy available.
