Summary
Since the 1.0 l TSI from the EA211 petrol engine family was introduced in 2015, the dynamic and efficient drive has been impressing customers in Volkswagen vehicles ranging from the up! to the Caddy. The new 1.0 l 85 kW TSI in the up! marks the first use of the engine as the TOP variant for the GTI, incorporating further optimisation to comply with forthcoming emissions standards.
Given the tighter emissions requirements of the EU6 AG standard, emissions have been improved in particular through optimisation of the following core aspects:
Drivetrain, combustion process, exhaust gas aftertreatment and engine management
The priority here was the reduction of untreated emissions and a completely new exhaust gas aftertreatment system, while retaining the dynamic character of the TSI.
As a result, the 1.0 l TSI in the up! GTI meets the very highest emissions standards, while delivering driving fun and dynamic performance.
Furthermore, the newly developed hardware and software technologies form the basis for widespread use of the three- and four-cylinder TSI engine family, and will be implemented in future across other vehicle segments.
