Summary

More than ever before the future potential of hybrid drives is under discussion. Almost all manufacturers of vehicles and transmissions are performing development activities. ZF offers a broad portfolio of electric drives and is capable to deliver highly integrated hybrid systems including the networked control of the components and the operating strategy as well. Reliable forecasts for the future market share of hybrid drives are not available. Hy-brid drive technology can provide advantages regarding fuel economy, emissions and performance of the vehicle but causes increased costs and higher complexity in compari-son to the conventional technology. The well-known requirements for conventional drive-lines are valid for hybrid drives too. The cost-benefit-relation of hybrid drives must be ac-ceptable. The evaluation of the hybrid technology has to be carried out under considera-tion of the specific requirements related to the market and to the application. The potential for further improvement of conventional drivelines has to be considered.
