Summary
Today, many port authorities and governmental bodies put increasing demands on terminals to install sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies. Konecranes was the first manufacturer of port equipment who introduced battery-electric drives for large vehicle fleets in real terminal operation. Today, the technology has proven itself in several international container terminals. This paper describes the ecological and economic advantages of battery-electric drives for port equipment, using battery-driven Automated Guided Vehicles as example. Based on this experience, Konecranes investigates how the technology can be transferred to other equipment types. Hereby a modular approach offers technical and economic advantages.
