Summary

Mild hybridisation presents the opportunity to achieve significant benefits from an electrified powertrain at a reasonable on-cost, towards the combined goals of COand pollutant reduction. With it comes an increased complexity in the interaction between each sub-system and a corresponding challenge to find the optimum
hardware and control approach. In order to realise the maximum benefits it is critical to carry-out a pre-hardware evaluation that fully explores these interactions and quantify the cost vs benefit trade-off. Ricardo and Volvo have used advanced simulation methodologies to study 48V Mild-Hybrid Diesel powertrain architectures to analyse the system performance and define solutions targeting post Euro 6 emissions whilst maximising fuel economy.
