Summary
In the last decade due to the breakthrough of the Common Rail technology on turbocharged Diesel engines, the Spark Ignition engines have lost significantly in competitiveness and the share in the European market fell down from 71% to less than 50% in the last 10 years. Despite of this market trends, SI engines still maintains intrinsic strategic advantages over the Diesels in terms of cost, comfort and potential for low emissions.
