Summary
The current business model of automotive suppliers positions them between reacting to OEMs' needs as these provide for the profit and fostering own innovation. Without a general overhaul, this positioning will soon bring many suppliers to a standstill as most OEM contracts to not provide enough means to fund future innovations.
To make matters worse, long-established structures such as the organizational matrices' and yearly planning cycles are outdated and can no longer function in the current dynamic and uncertain environment. A paradigm shift is required to successfully break free from this paradigm.
Central aspects of the new paradigm are autonomous, entrepreneurial units which are led by empowered team managers. These units take managerial decisions on their own and are held together by a coherent measurement system and strong company management.
