Summary

This paper presents the effectiveness of a two step simulation used in tooth root strain prediction. Since tooth root strain is determined by the misalignment of gear pairs, reproducing that misalignment accurately is necessary when predicting tooth root strain.

In the first step, a transmission assembly model using a simplified gear pair is generated to calculate the inner bearing deformation. In the next step, the gear pair and the shafts are modeled in detail, with the inner bearing deformation from the previous step used as a boundary condition to calculate the tooth root strain and the contact pressure on tooth surface. Finally, the results are compared with actual measurements.
