Summary
EU6 legislation provided at the end of 2011 a valid framework to set the requirements for the years to come. The limitation of particle numbers (PN) to 6x1011 particles/km presents a true challenge for gasoline engines with direct injection. We discuss the cause-effect relationship of particle formation based on studies conducted in an optically accessible single cylinder engine. This leads to component requirements and functionalities which make a major contribution to the reduction of particle emissions. Using an innovative production method for the high-pressure injection valve allows for a reduction of spray penetration and gives greater flexibility in the local fuel supply in the combustion chamber through individually sized spray holes. Developing functionality for the adaptation of fuel measurements at ballistic injection makes stable minute injection volumes possible for the first time even at high fuel pressure, thus making it a key technology for modes of operation with several injection pulses.
Lectures from the International Vienna Motor Symposium can be ordered from the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers (ÖVK). Lectures can only be purchased in the form of the complete conference documents, individual lectures are not available.
When placing an order, please note the year/name of the event (e.g. "45th International Vienna Motor Symposium 2024") for the further ordering process.
Members of the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers have access to all lectures of the International Vienna Motor Symposia.
