Summary
RENAULT is committed to remain among the three top world wide manufacturers in terms of contribution to CO2 emission reduction. To achieve this, and in addition to pursuing the development of highly efficient diesel engines, RENAULT has chosen "Downsizing", the reduction of engine displacement by turbo charging, as the most promising technology for gasoline engines in the next coming years. This paper describes the development of a 1.2 Liter turbocharged engine with the objective not only to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the very popular 100 HP range by replacing 1.4 and 1.6 naturally aspirated engines, but also to offer the customer a best in class cost to value alternative.
