Summary
Higher automated and finally fully automated vehicle systems shift safety-critical driving tasks from the driver to automated control systems and the respective electrically supplied sensors, control units and actuators. Some of the resulting upcoming safety requirements indicate the need for high availability of electric energy supply.
The development of a fail-operational power (FOP) architecture requires an optimization of the power network design principles as well as the utilized components. A FOP network architecture must cope with the intelligence on network and component level, influence design principles of the utilized components and deal with the ability to overcome traditional redundancies as well.
