Summary
The combination of low fuel consumption and minimal NOx untreated emissions is achieved by advantageous combustion management with low oxygen surplus. Indirectly, engine displacement reduction and, if necessary, adaptation of the gear ratio for r.p.m. reduction offer other options for CO2 reduction, whereby the intra-engine reduction of nitrogen oxide due to the shift of the operating points towards higher load ranges becomes more challenging and approximates the emissions strategies of passenger and commercial vehicle engines.
