Summary

For reaching the ambitious EU greenhouse gas reduction targets in the transportation sector, the introduction of battery electric vehicles powered with CO2 neutral electricity and vehicles powered with CO2 neutral hydrogen is of high importance. However, the contribution of the existing vehicle fleet is crucial. This topic can efficiently be addressed via introduction of drop-in lower renewable fuels. To introduce renewable fuels into the market including the existing vehicle fleet, effective and transparent market mechanisms are needed. The Bosch Digital Fuel Twin (DFT) provides this transparency throughout the entire fuel supply chain. DFT digitalizes the fuel supply chain from fuel production into vehicle, with the aim of providing the end customer with an accurate, certified proof of the carbon footprint of the fuel quantities consumed. By means of the DFT all the well-to-wheel relevant data is provided on single vehicle level. In this contribution the results from DFT demonstration project “Tour d’Europe” are in focus. It is real life driving experience with more than 77500 km across Europe with 16 vehicles including passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Used fuels consist of renewable market fuels and their blends, among them HVO100, 100% renewable gasoline and blends, E85 and B100. Tour results show, that already today ~67% overall well-to-wheel CO2 reduction is achievable, immediately effective in the field and traceable by means of Bosch DFT.
