Summary

Forces & Moments characterization of tire is a complex and endless task depending of the final measurement purpose which could be tire performance comparison, vehicle dynamic simulation, etc. Therefore the knowledge and the accurate description of the Forces and Moments properties are closely linked to the knowledge of use cases of tire on track. The use cases of tire cover a wide thermal range and slip condition. Specific attention is given to the preconditioning procedures and to the transposition of real life testing whilst managing thermal state and wear. Before developing an animation, it is necessary to analyze and determine the main objective of the Magic Formula model which will be fitted on the set of measurements. Especially the test procedures should cover the combined slip condition of tire which is one of the important criteria for handling manoeuvres at the limit. A reflexion of measurements on flat-surface bench is developed in cooperation between fka and Michelin since 2017 in order to characterize tires in combined slip conditions. This protocol is validated by Forces & Moments simulations on combined slip.
