Summary

High development costs for new technologies on the one hand and declining sales due to the economic slowdown, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 situation, on the other hand, increase the need for development efficiency. The digitization of development processes is therefore a key success factor for a sustainably successful automotive industry. The central, digital applications are AI, virtual reality, blockchain, product lifecycle management including systems engineering and additive manufacturing. Through the consistent use of digital applications, efficiency potentials of up to 23 % can be realized. In order to realize these potentials, the OEMs' operating models should be adapted in the dimensions "People", "Structure", "Process" and "IT".

Members of the Austrian Society of Automotive Engineers have access to all lectures of the International Vienna Motor Symposia.
