Summary
Towing a trailer on a highway or in an urban environment can be a challenging task for many drivers. To ease this task Valeo has developed enhanced trailer blind spot detection system based on a cost effective solid state lidar sensor (SSL). The SSL based system determines the trailer geometric characteristics without a prior
knowledge (TRES) and detects objects in the extended blind spot of vehicle and the trailer (TBSD). Both TRES and TBSD functions are combined in one cost effective system which offers potential for future functional extensions and represents an important step towards increase in road safety, higher automation levels and
eventually autonomous driving, where sensor redundancy and hence affordable solutions will be a must.
