Human Hybrids, Shared Vehicle and Airtaxis – Facing Sustainable Future with Mobility Thinking

Summary

To face sustainable mobility, renewable energy share needs to be enlarged (energy turnaround), and the mobility behaviour must change to reduce energy consumption (mobility turnaround). Using the course of energy consumption, registered passenger cars and CO2 emissions, effects and interdependence of both turnarounds as well as predictions between 2000 and 2050 are outlined. Collective mobility, which replaces parts of individual mobility like the private car, is one solution. In addition, a change in the development process of cars is necessary. The electrification of the transportation sector is inevitable. However, with rising numbers of electrified cars, power consumption will grow. To counteract that effect and lower the CO2 emissions, a rethinking is necessary from classical vehicle thinking, which focuses on car specifications, towards mobility thinking, which focuses on mobility needs, considering new and unconventional vehicle concepts. Finally, three examples of mobility thinking vehicle concepts are presented.
