Summary
Increasing functionality in vehicle development projects requires functional system simulation to prove if development is fulfilling it’s product goals with the help of virtual prototypes. To support decision makers in their day-to-day work it is mandatory that results from simulations are credible. Especially if these decisions influence safety aspects it is necessary to apply a method that quantifies quality of virtual prototypes. This paper proposes such a method that is applicable already from early stages of development until the final virtual prototype. To achieve this, common uncertainty quantification techniques and methods are extended by using a functional quality model which serves as reference. With that model-based approach a fully synthetic uncertainty quantification is created. An evaluation methodology of uncertainties is defined and demonstrated for passive lateral vehicle dynamics.
