Summary
Future legislation will implicate further demands to exhaust emissions of motorcycles. In addition future noise limits and the appendant measuring method will be tightened for the next step. The balancing act between power output, homologation and drivebility for engines with a power density of more than 100 kW/L is getting more and more difficult. In the next years these converse requirements need a lot of intensive work in CFD, mixture preparation, combustion, ECU-Application and exhaust aftertreatment to get a satisfying compromise for all targets. This paper shows some typical layout goal conflicts of high-performance engines on the new KTM V2-Engine for the street legal Supersport RC8.
