Zusammenfassung

Decarbonizing global shipping and power generation is critical to meeting greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets. Ammonia-fueled engines are emerging as a viable solution, yet challenges remain for their widespread adoption in four-stroke applications. Everllence is addressing these challenges and is actively developing ammonia-fueled medium-speed four-stroke engines.
This study presents combustion development efforts and performance trends from single-cylinder engine tests conducted in cooperation with WTZ Roßlau. Tests were performed on a high-speed (175 mm bore) and a medium-speed (350 mm bore) engine. Results confirm that both port-fuel injection (PFI) and high-pressure direct injection (HPDI) of ammonia, combined with a diesel pilot, are viable combustion strategies.
