Summary

A demonstrator vehicle was tested under challenging RDE driving scenarios to determine the capability of a low inertia class Euro 6d vehicle to meet RDE emissions limits under all conditions. An advanced exhaust aftertreatment system, consisting of LNT, SCRoF and AMOₓ aftertreatment components, was fitted to the vehicle to allow for optimal NOₓ control with balanced secondary emissions. A novel combined control strategy was developed and combined with an advanced, virtual calibration and optimization processes for emissions control and thermal management to ensure the vehicle could meet targets of < 60 mg/km tailpipe NOₓ emissions for all evaluated operating scenarios.
