Summary

The recent rise in Automated Driving (AD) systems has created the inadvertent need for new qualification strategies. Several key challenges exist, which - once solved - will ultimately enable highly automated driving. One of these challenges is the way these systems can be validated. As those AD systems are inherently different from classical driver assistance systems in the sense that these systems control the vehicle without the need for the driver to be constantly in the loop, new concepts for validating and testing those systems are required. This paper focuses on the challenges in qualification of vehicle-to-X (V2X) technology, which acts as one key technology for highly automated driving. Based on this focus, the authors present the publicly funded project KoMoD, in which a real proving ground for V2X technology is built which will
help the industry understand and solve the challenges for qualifying this technology.
