Summary
Charging a real-word range of 400 km within 15 minutes is one of the biggest goals in electric vehicle technology and aims to reduce the downtime of commercially used vehicles as well as the range anxiety of potential new customers. However, this has not yet been achieved as the fastest charging latest generation cars take 35 minutes to charge the necessary amount of energy. The D-SEe [diːˌsiː] research project, funded by the BMWi (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action), has examined the possibility of achieving this goal for the first time. The research team consisting of technology companies and universities of applied sciences developed a new type of charging unit that can provide the required average charging power of 400 kW.
