Summary
In addition to the electric versions, the extensive activities in the powertrain for vehicles and machines are also developing further for combustion engines with hydrogen as fuel, and the legal framework no longer prevents future use. The use of green, white, purple or blue hydrogen leads to CO2-free emissions locally.
In order to cover the wide range of applications and combustion processes without major conceptual hardware changes and the smallest possible geometry, ITAZ has developed a pilot-operated injector concept. Furthermore made simulations, set up different hardware and made measurements on the component test bench and on different combustion engines (single-cylinders). The concept can be adapted to low-speed (750 rpm) and high-revving sports engines (9000 rpm).
The results show a very high reproducibility from shot to shot, even in ballistic operation. They also show that quantity spreads of up to 1:60 between idle and full load are possible. Due to the system-related flexibility in the needle stroke (same magnetic force for all strokes), needle stroke up to 750μm has been realized for cars/trucks and up to 1mm for large engines. This is one of the reasons why injection rates of 48g/s at 80bar and 34g/s at 50bar and 9000 1/min are possible. As a result, very short injection times can be achieved which can support the firing process in terms of homogenization.
