Summary

This report describes the current development trend for high-voltage battery cases. For purely electric vehicles, there is a uniform development trend with regard to the architecture. The traction battery takes up almost all the vehicle chassis space between the axles and has a “flat pack” construction. There is not yet an all-purpose solution for its design and materials. Handtmann has developed three separate battery concepts on the basis of actual customer requirements. An aluminium profile solution with sheet
aluminium, a combination of materials made up of light metal casting and profiles, as well as a one-piece high-pressure die cast frame combined with a rolled base plate.
This paper will primarily look at the innovative, one-piece high-pressure die cast frame
solution, and its structure will be described in detail. Very positive properties have been indicated, especially in connection with the integration of functions, assembly and crash behaviour.
