Summary

Besides severe local emission regulations, increasingly tightened CO2 limits will be a key driver for the electrification of automotive powertrains. One key factor for the successful market roll-out of battery electric vehicles (BEV) is a competitive pricing.
By 2027 FEV expects a cost parity between a compact car with 48 V mild hybrid gasoline powertrain and a BEV with 180 km electric range (real world).

The market relevance of BEVs opens up new business opportunities for most market players. Automakers (OEM) can maintain their value-add in electrified powertrains assuming a stronger involvement in battery technology and e-components in general. Large potentials are foreseen for E/E suppliers. Described business potentials happen mostly at the expense of conventional component suppliers.
