Zusammenfassung

The current BMW M turbocharged six-cylinder gasoline engine has ushered in a new era for BMW M engines. New requirements regarding performance, emissions and legislation necessitated the development of a successor. The objective was to continue the success story by setting new standards regarding power density, everyay suitability and racetrack performance. In this regard, modern high-performance vehicles require not only a powerful engine, but an engine that also fits perfectly into the overall vehicle concept. The new BMW M in-line six-cylinder engine meets all of these requirements and represents a comprehensive and consistent new development. It constitutes the
technical basis for the propulsion of future high-performance vehicles and will be presented in this article.
