Zusammenfassung

Gasoline direct injection strategies have been proposed to overcome the drawbacks of port fuel injection in cold start, fast response, high power demand or deactivation of cylinders in combustion engines. In order to characterize the nozzle performance, measurements of mass flow rate and spray momentum are required. The rate of momentum (ROM) method consists of the spray impinging on a piezoelectric sensor (a technique used before for diesel injectors). However, the spray orientation needs to be known for a correct ROM assessment of the impingement angle of the spray on the sensor. Failure on the impingement angle assessment would result in an incorrect measurement, mostly for injectors with unconventional spray distributions. Also, in the case that the spray plumes cannot be isolated, all sprays could be measured at once considering a global contribution on the sensor. Therefore, this work presents a new technique developed in order to obtain sprays orientation -which could be different from the manufacturer drill angles- through injections events over a plastic deformation material. Furthermore, a new correction method to compute the theoretical contribution of each plume to the momentum is presented. Lastly, a comparison with CFD nozzle flow simulations is done to support the conceived methodology.
