Zusammenfassung
This paper describes a simulation model of the vehicle steering system including the Electric Power Steering (EPS) as well as the steering resistance of the tires and axles (tie rod force) for a static driving simulator. The purpose is to support the decisions for primary parameter values of the steering system such as the dimension of the EPS actuator, the steering gear ratio etc. via the subjective assessment of the steering feel in the driving simulator. In this way, unnecessary and expensive over-dimensioning of the EPS actuator can be avoided while maintaining the performance of the steering system. The driving simulator equipped with the developed simulation model is proved to be able to represent a sufficiently realistic steering feel and is successfully utilized in development of steering systems.
