Zusammenfassung

Adding variable valve train systems to gasoline 48 V mild-hybrid P0 and P1 powertrains improves the overall fuel efficiency and reduces the pollutant emissions. In this context the results from a comprehensive vehicle simulation study are presented with the focus on P0 hybrids utilizing the Smart OverRun System. For various 48 V powertrain configurations in C-segment cars, the impact of the e-motor rated power, ranging from 10 kW to 20 kW, two different belt drive layouts, different battery capacities of 0.5 kWh and 2 kWh as well as two different hybrid modes, namely load point reduction and eCoasting are investigated in the worldwide harmonized light vehicles test cycle and a more dynamic real driving emission valid driving cycle. Key finding is that the Smart OverRun System increases the recuperated energy up to around 10 % and enables the more efficient use of the recuperated electrical energy within eCoasting mode. Almost independent of the investigated powertrain configurations the Smart OverRun System achieves a fuel efficiency benefit above 5 % in the C-segment car compared to the respective base MHEV vehicle. The system also has the potential to shorten the catalyst heat-up phase and to reduce the overall pollutant emissions by omitting rich purge phases after overrun.
