Zusammenfassung

To realize WtW CO2 emissions with ICE at same level as BEV, not only electrification by xHEV but also ICE thermal efficiency improvement is necessary. NISSAN’s ePOWER system provides opportunities for the evolution of ICE thermal efficiency and exhaust emissions reduction.
As a power source for electricity generation, the ICE for e-POWER has requirements, such as high thermal efficiency at charging operation, high specific output power with compact package and light weight for vehicle fuel economy improvement. Considering those requirements 45 % thermal efficiency with 80 kW/L at lambda=1 was set as a target in the near future, and 50 % thermal efficiency was set as the final goal.
