Zusammenfassung

Operating in a global environment means that quite diverse requirements have to be met. Driving factors for diversity are discussed considering regulatory, taxation, social and energy aspects. Meeting current and future requirements generally call for new technologies. Typically, these new technologies are more powerful but they also increase complexity. In order to cope with diversity and complexity GM has developed several methods including an advanced propulsion technology strategy. Focusing on fewer but more capable powertrain architectures, applying a well defined process of engineering, intensively leveraging simulation and advanced optimization tools are measures to keep control over increasingly complex powertrains. The electrification of powertrains offers additional opportunities but also additional complexity.
