Zusammenfassung

The future emission legislations worldwide require further pollutant reduction for light, medium and heavy duty diesel engines without compromising on performance and fuel economy. In order to achieve this, Fuel Injection Equipment (FIE) together with pressure charging, EGR cooling systems and other engine components will play a key role. In recent years, the Common Rail FIE technology has played a key role in the achievement of significant improvements in emissions, fuel economy and specific power for light and medium duty diesel engines. The aim of this paper is to present Delphi Diesel Systems’ innovations in Common Rail FIE Technologies for next generation of light and medium duty diesel engines. The experimental and modelling results of innovations in injection pressure capabilities, higher specific power output from the same nozzle design, capability for injection train with or without separation, control of the needle lift and speed, small fuel injection quantities and other parameters needed for improved emissions and performance are presented and discussed. The obtained results show that a new Common Rail FIE has potential to satisfy future emissions legislations (EURO6 and Tier 2 Bin 5) and to improve engine performance while maintaining the best fuel economy.
