Zusammenfassung

The push by legislation and society to reflect life cycle/sustainability aspects forces the complete automotive value chain to address especially its CO2 footprint with ambitious ESG targets. The value of CO2 is determined multidimensionally - and increasingly rising! Hydrogen is the promising energy carrier in the transformation towards sustain-ability. This paper discusses the position of hydrogen in the automotive industry against the background of increasing monetization of CO2. Starting with an analysis of the different dimensions of CO2, a short comparison of the competition between BEV and FCEV is conducted: Is a hydrogen vehicle outperforming BEV regarding CO2 footprint along the life cycle? A special focus is put on the impact on future CO2 regulations and how technologies decisions are influenced if CO2 would be monetized in the use-phase.
