Electric vehicles have become an important part of today’s automotive industry and lithium-ion batteries play a crucial role in electric vehicles. Battery swelling can lead to reduced performance of the battery, but also to mechanical stresses and damage of the battery and its casing. Simulations that include thermal, electrochemical and mechanical behavior enable a better understanding of these phenomena, and this knowledge helps to develop robust batteries that are more robust and better battery casing and battery module designs.
