Zusammenfassung

To date, there are no stipulated CO2 emission performance standards for powertrains in the off-highway sector. Nevertheless, defossilization of mobile machinery is encouraged by political incentives, greenification strategies of OEMs and the intrinsic motivation to place product ranges in the service of climate protection. DEUTZ is leading the way by expanding its portfolio to serve the applications with CO2-free powertrains.

Choosing the appropriate technology for Green Construction Sites requires a deep understanding of the respective energy carriers. Therefore, boundary conditions of the energy industry must be considered and understood comprehensively. In the past, Germany has only ever been able to cover part of its energy demand domestically. Even once renewable energy sources cover the entire electricity demand in the future, it will not enable Germany to be independent from imports of energy. The majority of final energy demand must still be covered by molecule-based fuels. Consequently, the energy market will offer green molecules on a large scale. These chemical batteries will be a key pillar in the future of non-road mobile machinery.

DEUTZ provides an outlook on its technology strategy towards establishing Green Construction Sites. In this transformation, there is no silver bullet. All solutions that comply with the remaining CO2 budget must be considered. DEUTZ follows a technology adapted approach considering energy infrastructure together with operating range and energy demand of the application. In doing so, electric drivetrains as well as combustion engines operated with green molecules – including hydrogen – are part of the product portfolio. The effect of these sustainable drive technologies is demonstrated in a tangible case study of a construction site.
