Zusammenfassung

This paper describes the Schaeffler E-Wheel Drive (E-WD), a highly integrated wheel hub drive for battery electric vehicles. The E-WD shows how the whole powertrain can be integrated into the wheels, offering further advantages at the same time. However, technical challenges have prevented the use in volume production so far. The latest generation of the E-WD, mainly developed within the research project MEHREN, now demonstrates a wheel hub drive concept evaluated on test rigs and in demonstration vehicles fulfilling all necessary practical and safety requirements.
