Zusammenfassung

As we all know, ours is an industry that is undergoing a period of profound transformation. In this era of unprecedented change, Ford sees a great number of opportunities.
Much of the talk in our industry is about autonomous and electric vehicles – which we very much are preparing for. We even have our new Transit Plug-in Hybrid here if you would like to drive it.
But our industry also needs to remember that consumers first need to trust new technology before it will be accepted. If you look at consumer sentiment, one aspect keeps coming up.
The biggest barrier to overcome is not a question of whether we have the capability to build on the promise. It is the lack of trust most consumers have in new technology.
For example, in a recent study, three-quarters of drivers said they would be too afraid to get into an autonomous vehicle, and a chief question for consumers concerning electric vehicles is range anxiety.
Extreme and fearful reactions to new technologies are not new. When the first steam trains were introduced, many people at the time believed the human body was incapable of travelling at speeds over 50 kilometres per hour. There are many more examples.
