Zusammenfassung

Following the success of the 145 kW LP Miller engine released in 2021, Aurobay is set to release a higher power MP Miller variant in early 2024. This engine is a combined evolution of the MP (Otto) and LP (Miller) variants and therefore part of the same 2.0 L, 4-cylinder family. Continued study of the LP Miller engine developed an understanding of how higher power could be achieved while maintaining much of the fuel efficiency benefit. Significant attention was given to what components and systems needed to be reworked versus carried over from the base MP variant to create a cost-effective Miller concept. The exhaust aftertreatment system sees significant cost savings in reduced precious metal loading. This is achieved through improved flow and temperature uniformity and improved methods and materials protecting against catalyst ageing. The engine is fitted with two different aftertreatment systems. One system complies with the SULEV30 PM1 emissions regulation without the use of a gasoline particulate filter (GPF). The other includes a GPF to meet China 6b and Euro 6d/e regulations. During development of the combustion system, a tradeoff was identified between increased tumble and the resulting increased convective heat losses that brings.
