Zusammenfassung
The electrical architecture of battery electric vehicles is still subject to change, driven by higher voltage levels, larger battery capacities and increased safety requirements for example from ISO 26262. At the same time, OEMs reduce the number of variants and components by shifting to standardized platforms with increased system integration in order to meet challenging cost targets.
In this context, Rheinmetall is developing a portfolio of products which are essential for the safety concept of future electrical high-voltage architectures, like mechanical solenoid-driven contactors, pyrofuses and also semiconductor-based safety switches.
The focus of this publication is on semiconductor-based safety switches. They offer the potential to significantly improve vehicle safety, so it can be expected that such devices will play an important role in upcoming safety concepts and that future safety legislation for electric vehicles might make them mandatory.
