Zusammenfassung
In order to meet the European Union (EU) CO2 neutrality target within 2050, many emerging solutions are considered in the powertrain development of the future. In the continuous discussion concerning CO2 neutral powertrains, bio-fuel and e-fuels could contribute in cutting lifecycle overall vehicle emissions. At the present time, hydrogen could be the only fuel, that in the long term, can result in near zero CO2 emissions both at the tailpipe and also from its production. Compared to gasoline, hydrogen benefits can be summarized in showing a higher flame speed, a wider range of flammability and higher auto-ignition temperatures. As a drawback, it requires a very low ignition energy, which it might imply an increased Pre-Ignition (PI) phenomena, such as surface ignition and back-fire occurrence.
