Summary
The new 4.2l V8 TDI engine is a consequently continued development of the 4.0l TDI engine which is offered so far in the Audi A8. The cylinder spacing has been enlarged from 88 to 90 mm and the injection system has been changed to piezo-technology. The EGR-system, the combustion and the turbocharging were further optimized. For the first time a double-flow particle filter application has been adopted. Additionally the engine weight could be reduced by 15 kg in comparison to the 4.0l TDI. The new V8-TDI develops a maximal power output of 220 kW and a torque of 650 Nm. In combination with the diesel particle filters it complies with EU 4 emission limits. The engine is a further member of the Audi V engine family, which distinguishes itself through short and compact design and also through many synergies between gasoline and diesel engines.
