Summary

Heat management will play a key role in future development at the BMW Group. The efficient use of the dissipated heat generated in the combustion process that takes place in petrol and diesel engines presents significant challenges for the future. This process is increasingly seeing technologies being applied that transfer heat energy into useful mechanical or most importantly electrical energy through innovative forms of energy conversion. The proliferation of electrically powered systems in automobiles (e.g. electric water pump, power steering systems, air flap systems, etc.) will entail a specific focus on an electrical supply designed to meet the needs of the vehicle’s onboard electrical system.
