Summary
Public transport plays a crucial role in all future mobility concepts, especially when it comes to densely populated urban areas. While OEMs work hard to improve the energy efficiency of related buses, trams and trains, further optimization potential lies in selecting the best vehicle for each route, driver-training, constructive measures like adding dedicated bus-lanes to roads or optimizing auxiliary energy consumers like the HVAC system. Various OEMs offer data logging tools for their vehicles, but typical urban public transport providers have very heterogeneous fleets with buses and trams spanning several design generations and different OEMs. There are also diverse interfaces to collect telemetry data. To optimize not only a single bus, but a complete fleet with different buses from different manufacturers and relate measures to each other, a neutral, flexible, and versatile tool is needed.
