Summary

The new 3.0l V6 TFSI engine represents the logical extension of the rightsizing strategy into the high-performance segment. The engine develops 260 kW (354 bhp) and thanks to the use of twin scroll technology the monoturbo also delivers a torque of 500 Nm across a wide engine-speed range from 1,370 rpm to 4,500 rpm. The cylinder head concept – with the intake outside and the exhaust on the inside – produces short gas paths, low flow losses and high dynamic response. The concept has been in production at Audi since 2012, with the 4.0 V8 TFSI. The main development priorities of reducing fuel consumption and meeting worldwide emissions legislation were achieved through; the use of the intake-side Audi valvelift system in conjunction with central injector position, and the reduction in friction and the innovative thermal management. Through engine-internal measures alone, fuel consumption is reduced by around 6% compared to the predecessor engine.
