Summary

The survival of the diesel passenger car depends on the adoption of low cost and highly efficient DeNOx system. However, since exhaust gas temperature falls by reduction of CO2 where catalyst activity is low, a technical strategy for low temperature condition is required. The closed coupled catalyst, as well as external catalyst heating is well known advanced fundamentals to improve the activation of catalytic reactions. To minimize the fuel consumption penalty in the after-treatment system compatible with low temperature, new strategies have been investigated on the test vehicle, equipped with a laboratory exhaust fuel burner, an electrically heated catalyst and SCR on DPF.
