Summary

Hyundai-Kia's next-generation 1.6L diesel engine has been developed to satisfy the demand for a fuel-efficient performance and stringent emission certification, which is ready for installation on the debut of the B segment SUV, KONA in 2018. The New engine features competitive power output and comfortable NVH characteristics, and especially outstanding fuel economy with Euro6d emission regulation. Ecologically and economically friendly technologies applied in this engine were introduced including lightweight aluminum cylinder block, friction reduced moving system, improved combustion chamber design, advanced piezo fuel injection and thermal management system, and the most important priority for optimizing the engine design parameters was fuel efficiency.
