Summary
This paper investigates the transformation of software systems in modern vehicles, focusing on the next generation of Human Machine Interface systems, as well as the implications of said transformation for traditional OEMs. To this effect, consumer preferences and expectations from In-Vehicle Infotainment systems are examined. Secondly, strategic options available for traditional OEMs in the vehicle technology stack are illustrated. Finally, an overview of key strategic decisions that automotive companies need to take to successfully navigate this transformation are provided.
